The Heart Directs the Hand!

I’m preparing this week to facilitate a workshop at Restoration Church in Spartanburg, SC.  I’ve done hundreds of these learning events across the country and I’m jazzed to be able to host one in my own backyard!

One of the great takeaways from this training is always the unique Passion Process.  Many people spend their lives trying to find out what has grabbed them and in just one day we’re able to help people get clarity on their passions and core drivers.  Frequently, focus can’t be achieved alone because when you are emotionally attached to the outcomes in your life, your clarity becomes cloudy.

Why do you need to grow?

I spent today in Pennsylvania with New Castle Lawn and Landscape and I was asked the question, “Why do I have to grow?”  People normally discover that even though they say they want to grow, they don’t understand the price they have to pay to grow.  There is no growth without change and there is no change without pain.  This is why people usually grow only to their pain tolerance.  Many times I’m called in to assess personal capacity and one of the main questions I ask myself is, “How much pain is this person able to endure?”  Not a fun question, a valuable one to ask ourselves.

The critical reason is summed up in the phrase I call OUT-IN-OUT

Manage Your Energy not Time

Staying Motivated

I just finished Daniel Pink’s new book, Drive.  It’s the book I wish I would have written.  In addition to Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose (if you don’t understand what I’m talking about, go get the book!) I’d like to weigh in with my 3 techniques I’ve used to motivate myself!

1.  Focus

How I focus determines how I feel.  So if I want to change my emotions I’ve got to change my focus.  My outward drive is determined by my inward desire.  To keep that desire burning I must guard my focus!  Focus on what’s going well, not on what’s going wrong.  Focus on what you have, not on what you don’t.  Focus on where you’re going, not where you came from!
